Terra Cognita

by particle,
the hills
precipitate out of the dark
their lovely, wet and dreaming bulk,
our terra cognita,

and Claudia puts
the kettle on,
drowsing softly
by the stove
while the curve of her
throat and the curve of her
breast marry in the seeing,
just as the hills’ wet flanks
make harmony receding,
and Claudia and the hills
extend our realm.
