Mirrors maximize space.
Reflect light. Make small
and cramped seem bigger, brighter.

This hotel gym, for example.

For a brief moment, entering the room,
I saw a second treadmill in the mirror,
ready for running, if only in place.

But that woman by the wall,
wearing sweats and sneakers
just like mine, is puzzled.

She wonders who is right.

The woman who sees more
than currently exists.

Or the one who scorns
any image of what could be.
